Granny Anne

The story of Granny Anne's Fried Pies began in 1985 with the opening of the Towe family restaurant, Mountain Girls Country Restaurant, in the small town of Cana, Virginia. The small restaurant thrived serving all home cooked meals ranging from hotdogs to pintos and pork barbeque. The restaurant continued to grow with the local "regulars" and the numerous tourists traveling along Highway 52 South where the restaurant was located. Anne Deatherage was owner and operator of Mountain Girls

Made Fresh Daily
since 1990. She introduced her family recipe favorite to the menu now known as "Granny Anne's Famous Fried Apple Pies." The pies were an instant menu favorite with customers driving from near and far to pick up one for now and a few for the road. She would often sell over 200 pies on any given Sunday!

Unfortunately, in the spring of 2004 the family restaurant was destroyed by fire. This left Granny Anne with a void to fill since cooking and the restaurant were the joy of her life (along with her wonderful family, of course). This also left her customers asking where they were supposed to eat! The number one demand remained, her fried apple pies. She then decided to continue making pies in her home and distribute to the local businesses where her customers could purchase them.

Deliciously Good!

Granny Anne now fries her homemade pies in her own kitchen fresh daily. She uses all natural ingredients of dried apples, sugar, water, flour and spices. She purchases her apples from the local Cana farmers. The pie's light and flaky crust is made from scratch using her secret family recipe. The pies are always fried in peanut oil. She has also added sweet potato, pumpkin and low calorie alternatives with Splenda® to the menu. More flavors may become available as different fruits come into season!
